A recent poll shows that 53% of Americans believe that the cost of living is the worst that they can ever remember.

Everyone, except the youth, can recall the economic downturn after 9/11 and the great recession starting in 2007 or the COVID lockdown economic shock of 2020.

More than half of Americans are essentially saying that President Donald Trump's war on Iran is worse than all of them economically,

I agree ...that prices are up, and it certainly probably has something to do with the war in Iran, or whatever, gas price goes (up), because oil, you know, goes into everything, even agriculture, it's terrible, you know. ...

We didn't raise the salaries and stuff up for people working, but other things are going up, and it's difficult.

It's hard, and that's why they have a lot of places, pantry for free food and stuff like that.

Older Americans have another reference for economic disaster and many may think the current situation is worse due to rising gas prices.

Gas is going up. A lot of people forget the 70s when gas lines were a mile long.

While decades of government cutbacks, austerity policies, and low interest money for the rich are a major cause of today's crisis in the US, more than 60% of the public says the war has made things more expensive for them overall.

Small business owners deal with customers, suppliers, and farmers, and they report cutbacks and anxieties across the board.

Prices are high, mostly transportation, and in my line of work, farmers, they don't - it's not just transportation of getting it from A to B, it's the cost of growing stuff.

So, when energy is high and gas is high, everything goes up.

So, it's been rough.

They're anxious, they're struggling, they're worried, they're stressed, and they are worrying about how they're going to survive.

They're worried about gas prices. It's a lot of worry. It's a lot of people worried.

The poll also finds that nearly 60% of the country says Trump has not protected Americans from the war's impact, but his aggression has clearly spiraled out of American control, backfired in countless ways economically and geopolitically, and shows no sign of improving for Washington's ambitions.

Once global oil reserves are drastically depleted, which will happen as soon as late June, the economic impact of the war will be severely exacerbated.

However, Trump continues to show no sign of genuinely pursuing a lasting peace with Iran based on the new order on the ground in West Asia.
