Iran inaugurates largest cancer treatment center in West Asia

Iran has inaugurated the largest cancer treatment center in West Asia, replacing an older facility with a new 18-story hospital equipped with over 610 beds and advanced medical technologies.

The new building of the Iran Cancer Institute was inaugurated on Tuesday in the presence of  Minister of Health Mohammadreza Zafarghandi. 

The center, serving as the country’s scientific hub for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of all types of cancer, has been constructed on a land area of 60,000 square meters across 18 floors.

The facility includes 37 specialized departments, 11 imaging and radiotherapy devices, and 96 chemotherapy beds.

Abdolrahman Rostamian, director of the Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex, said at the inauguration ceremony that the new hospital, with over 610 inpatient beds, 19 operating rooms, and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and technologies, would play a significant role in developing specialized and super‑specialized cancer services.

Seyed Reza Raeeskarami, president of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, also told the ceremony that during the time they were following up on equipping and completing the building, two wars were imposed on the country by the United States and Israel.

Raeeskarami further explained that the hospital would treat all types of cancers in children and adults.

He confirmed that the best and most experienced specialists were present at the center.

With the help of donors, he added, a national cell therapy laboratory has been built, and its equipment was in the process of being purchased.

Finally, Raeeskarami noted that the old building would be preserved as an educational and research center.
