The second unit of  Bandar Abbas power plant has been successfully synchronized and reconnected to Iran's national electricity grid following the completion of major overhaul operations.

Managing Director of the Bandar Abbas power plant Mohammad Aqil Ameri said on Monday that the overhaul was successfully carried out with precise planning, full compliance with technical requirements, and reliance on the expertise of domestic specialists.

He added that the unit was synchronized with the national grid after undergoing all technical and performance tests and commissioning procedures.

“During this overhaul, numerous specialized operations were successfully conducted, including the repair and reconstruction of main boiler equipment, replacement of worn-out pipes, servicing of the steam turbine, inspection and troubleshooting of the generator, non-destructive testing (NDT), calibration of instrumentation systems, maintenance of control and protection system, auxiliary equipment servicing, and final operational tests,” he noted.

Ameri said the project was carried out under sensitive circumstances coinciding with threats and attacks by the Israeli regime and the United States.

Earlier on July 8, the US military launched a fresh wave of illegal and unprovoked strikes on Iran's southern coastal region. The attacks targeted several coastal military bases as well as non-military sites in Hormozgan Province and Mahshahr, in an open violation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the US.

Despite the challenges, he explained, the plant’s personnel completed the overhaul with a spirit of dedication, responsibility, and round-the-clock effort, ensuring that power generation remained uninterrupted.

"The successful connection of Unit 2 to the national grid is the result of the unity, expertise, commitment and the tireless efforts of the Bandar Abbas power plant team," he said.

The official also praised the plant’s engineers, specialists, technicians and employees working with the departments of operations, maintenance, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, chemistry, safety and support at the plant.

He emphasized that the return of Unit 2 to service would play an important role in increasing production capacity and enhancing the stability of the national power network, particularly during the peak summer consumption period.

Located 12 kilometers west of the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, the thermal power plant has a total generation capacity of 1,330 megawatts and is one of Iran's major electricity generation facilities.

The steam section, with a capacity of 1,280 MW, consists of four 320-MW steam units.

The plant's main fuel is natural gas, with mazut as the backup fuel, and diesel used for startup operations.

The facility includes six mazut storage tanks with a total capacity of 108 million liters and two diesel tanks with a total capacity of one million liters.
