Iran has strongly condemned the brutal Israeli attacks on Lebanon on Friday, which killed several paramedics and a Lebanese photojournalist, and caused widespread destruction of infrastructure.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei pointed to the continuous violations of Lebanon's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, noting that more than 3,000 people have been martyred and over 9,000 wounded in Israel’s terrorist attacks against Lebanon over the past three months.
He described the indifference and inaction of the United Nations Security Council regarding these crimes as shameful.
He emphasized the urgent need for the Islamic world, particularly through the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to take immediate action to halt the occupation and crimes of the Israeli regime.
The spokesperson praised the patience and resilience of the Lebanese people in the face of aggression and occupation, offered condolences to the families of the martyrs and to the government and people of Lebanon.
He also reaffirmed Iran's full solidarity with Lebanon in its path to defend its sovereignty and independence.
Israel carried out overnight airstrikes on Lebanon's Bekaa Valley and the southern province of Tyre, killing at least four people and reducing buildings to craters, Lebanese sources said Saturday.
The strikes continued Saturday morning, hitting near Lebanese army barracks. A man on a motorcycle was killed in the town of Nabatieh. Further strikes in the town of Chehabiyeh caused additional casualties, though the death toll there remains unknown.
The bombings mark the latest in a series of deadly days for Lebanon.
On Friday, Israeli attacks killed 10 people, including a child and six paramedics. One of the paramedics also worked as a photojournalist, identified as Ahmad Hariri.
Despite a ceasefire in effect since April 17, extended through mid-May, Israel continues daily attacks in Lebanon.
According to the Lebanese health ministry, Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2, soon after the war of aggression against Iran, have killed at least 3,123 people and displaced more than one million.
