Indonesia FM: Millions of Indonesians love martyred Leader

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi meets with visiting Foreign Minister of Indonesia in Mashhad on July 10, 2026.

The Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has stated that "millions of people” in his country love the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Sugiono made the remarks during a meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Mashhad on Friday.

Noting that his trip to Mashhad, along with other Indonesian officials, aims to “pay our respects at the grave of the martyred leader”, Sugiono added that he also carries “a message of condolences from the president, the government and the people of Indonesia."

Appreciating the conveyed message of condolences and the high-ranking delegation’s visit to the grave of the martyred leader, Araghchi described it as “a sign of Islamic solidarity and the closeness of the hearts of the two nations.”

He further said that the million-strong funeral rites in Iran and Iraq and the eagerness of Muslims around the world to participate in them are a sign of the martyred leader's high religious and political status in the Muslim world.

The two ministers also discussed the latest developments in the region after the latest US-Israeli aggression against Iran, and stressed the importance of continuing political consultations to develop and strengthen relations between the two countries.

The Indonesian delegation, which arrived in the early hours of Friday to pay tribute to the leader who was martyred in the US-Israeli aggression on February 28, was the first official foreign delegation to visit the grave of the revered leader.

The martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, was laid to rest in Mashhad in the early hours of Friday.

The funeral ceremonies began last Friday with tributes from officials from over 45 countries and scholars from more than 90 nations.

The six-day grand farewell and funeral rites for the revered Leader were held across five cities -- Tehran, Qom, Najaf, Karbala, and Mashhad -- drawing massive, passionate crowds that defied all previous records, the Fars News Agency reported.

Official estimates, compiled from multiple independent field and government sources, confirm that between 41 and 43 million people took part in the historic events.
