Internationally renowned analyst Professor John Mearsheimer has stated that US President Donald Trump has “no military option” and must end the war of aggression on Iran quickly to avoid triggering a recession.
Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Thursday, Mearsheimer warned that the international economy is already in deep trouble.
“If things get worse, President Trump will be in even more trouble. And I think this is the principal reason that he decided to extend the ceasefire instead of going back to bombing Iran,” he said.
Mearsheimer explained that Iran would respond forcefully to any resumption of hostilities.
“President Trump understands full well that if he bombs Iran, Iran will retaliate by completely closing the Strait of Hormuz and shutting down the Red Sea as well. This would have even further devastating consequences on the international economy,” he said.

"US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz not only won't work, it's counterproductive."

The prominent American analyst warned that resuming unprovoked aggression against Iran could plunge the entire world into an unprecedented crisis.
“In fact, lots of people are arguing that we’re in danger of moving into a world that looks like the Great Depression of the 1930s. So President Trump has a vested interest in settling this war as quickly as possible,” he added.
Mearsheimer stressed that Trump has no viable military solution and cannot resolve the conflict through force.
“If we do use military force against Iran, not only are they going to retaliate, but they’re not going to throw up their hands and surrender.”
He added that the Iranians are prepared to resist to the last person because they view the United States and Israel as an existential threat.
“The Iranians are nationalistic to the core, and furthermore, they view the United States and Israel as an existential threat. That means they’ll fight to the last person.”
“So, we have no war-winning strategy, and we have a powerful imperative to just shut this one down as quickly as possible,” Mearsheimer added.
Iran is willing to end the war. It's willing to negotiate the terms of that end. But it will not negotiate away its defensive capabilities, its rightful nuclear program, its legitimate control over the Strait of Hormuz, & its people's right to reparations.https://t.co/OsPb5qK90Q https://t.co/m7gT1SC2qJ

The unprovoked US-Israeli aggression against Iran began on February 28 with airstrikes that assassinated senior Iranian officials and commanders and targeted civilian infrastructure, residential areas, educational institutions, and historical and cultural sites.
In response, the Iranian armed forces launched 100 waves of successful retaliatory strikes against sensitive and strategic American and Israeli targets throughout the region.
On April 8, forty days into the war, a Pakistan-brokered two-week ceasefire took effect. However, the first round of Tehran-Washington negotiations in Islamabad failed to reach an agreement.
Trump unilaterally extended the truce, stating that his administration would wait for an Iranian proposal for a second round of talks.
Tehran has so far refrained from committing to further negotiations, citing Washington’s excessive demands and its “naval blockade” of Iran as the main obstacles to ending the war.
