June 15: Iran-US MoU to end imposed war is widely welcomed as US lifts naval blockade

Iran announced that the text of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States has been finalized, marking the end of the US-Israeli war against the Islamic Republic, lifting the naval blockade, and calling for an immediate halt to Israeli aggression across all fronts, including Lebanon.

On Monday evening, at least three Iranian oil tankers and two cargo ships carrying essential goods successfully sailed through as the US naval blockade was officially lifted.

Iranian officials described the MoU as the result of the nation's resilience and steadfastness during nearly 110 days, while emphasizing that ending the Israeli aggression against Lebanon forms an inseparable part of the understanding.

Many world leaders issued statements or spoke to Iran's top diplomat, Abbas Araghchi, on Monday, welcoming the formal end of the US-Israeli war of aggression. 

Key developments on June 15, the first day following the finalization of the MoU:

  • The secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) confirmed that Tehran and Washington have finalized the text of an MoU on ending the war, bringing an immediate and permanent halt to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, and terminating the US naval blockade against Iran.
  • At least three Iranian oil tankers and two cargo ships carrying essential goods successfully broke through the US naval blockade, Press TV reported.
  • President Masoud Pezeshkian said Israel’s anger over the MoU between Iran and the US clearly signals the success and victory of the Iranian nation.
  • Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and the lead negotiator hailed Iran’s historic resilience against aggressors, saying the country took a “great step towards final victory” through a war-ending deal with the United States.
  • Iran's Army Commander Major General Amir Hatami said the enemy has realized that it must respect the Iranian nation, their beliefs, and the Islamic establishment after suffering defeats on the battlefield. 
  • Iran said termination of the Israeli war on Lebanon is an “inseparable” part of an agreement between Tehran and Washington to end the illegal US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic permanently.
  • Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the first round of negotiations with the United States aimed at resolving outstanding disputes between the two countries will take place immediately after the signing of an MoU in Switzerland later this week, which permanently ends the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.
  • Araghchi discussed the Iran-US MoU with his counterparts from Turkey, Iraq, Egypt, Japan, and Saudi Arabia, emphasizing US responsibility for implementing the deal in its entirety. 
  • Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah congratulated Iran on the great achievement of reaching an agreement with the United States that marks an end to the US-Israeli aggression on the country and its allies in the region.
  • Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani praised the resilience and steadfastness of the great Iranian nation in the face of the "evil arrogance" of the US and the Israeli regime.
  • Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said the will of the Iranian nation has been successfully imposed on the enemies, hailing the resilient people of the Islamic Republic of Iran for their glorious victory.
  • A chorus of international praise greeted the MoU, which brings an immediate and permanent end to the US‑Israeli war of aggression on Iran and on other fronts, lifts the naval blockade, and reopens the Strait of Hormuz.
  • UN Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres welcomed the agreement as a “critical step” toward peace and stability. 
  • Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian also welcomed the agreement reached between Washington and Tehran and praised Pakistan's role in mediating the negotiations.
  • Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the formal signing ceremony of the Iran-US MoU will be hosted by his country in Geneva on June 19.
  • The first tranche of approximately $3 billion in Iranian foreign-exchange assets arrived in Tehran following the landing of a private Emirati aircraft at Mehrabad Airport in recent days, according to a report.
