Israel Gaza, Lebanon strikes

Israeli forces keep violating a ceasefire deal with Hamas, killing more innocent people in Gaza. At least three Palestinians were killed early on Sunday in two separate drone strikes that hit Gaza City’s Al-Shujaiya neighborhood. Three women from the same family were also killed and two others went missing following the collapse of their home in Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, in the same city. That brings the total number of those killed in building collapses to 18 people since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10. Since then, Israeli violations have also claimed 404 lives, with over 1,100 others injured.

Israeli land grab

The Israeli regime’s cabinet has approved the establishment of 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank. The proposal to establish new settlements was introduced by the regime’s ministers for military affairs and finance. The Israeli far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich declared that the move is aimed at preventing the establishment of a Palestinian state. With this latest approval, the total number of settler units approved over the past three years has now climbed to 69. A recent UN report has said Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank has reached its highest level since at least 2017. The UN emphasized that all Israeli settlements in the occupied territory are considered illegal under international law.

Ukraine war peace plan

The Kremlin says changes made by Europe and Ukraine to the US peace proposal have not improved peace prospects between Moscow and Kiev. Russian President’s top foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov said the changes will not help achieve long-term peace. This comes after Washington last month presented a 28-point plan to end the nearly four-year-old war, raising European and Ukrainian concerns that they were tilted too far in Russia's favor. The proposal has since been redrafted following Kyiv and Europe's involvement. Meanwhile Putin's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, met with U-S special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Florida on Saturday. Ukrainian and European teams have also arrived since Friday for the negotiations, mediated by the US. Dmitriev said the talks would continue on Sunday.
