Iran-US nuclear talks
Iran’s Foreign Minister has stressed that nuclear talks with the US will come to fruition, provided that Washington avoids miscalculations and excessive demands. Abbas Araghchi made the remark in a phone call with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty. Araghchi also called on the US to be realistic and show resolve in order for the talks to succeed. The third round of indirect talks between Iran and the US concluded in the Swiss city of Geneva on Thursday.
Iran armed forces vigilance
Iran’s armed forces are closely monitoring all maneuverings by the US Army and the Israeli regime in the region. That’s according to the spokesperson of the Iranian armed forces. Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi said any provocative move by the US will be met with a crushing and decisive response. He added that any unwise move will ignite a war in the entire region. Dismissing the US President’s threats as rhetoric and fantasy, the Iranian general noted that if a confrontation erupts, American soldiers and US assets will be destroyed in the region. Separately, the ground force of the Iranian Army expressed readiness in the face of any threat. The Army Ground Force added that it will fulfill its duties in the face of conspiracies and plots by the global arrogance.
Pakistan-Afghanistan clashes
Tensions have heated up and renewed clashes erupted between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan declared an open war with its neighbor, after Afghanistan said it carried out strikes on Pakistani border posts. Islamabad says its operation involved air and ground strikes against Taliban headquarters and ammunition depots. According to a Taliban spokesperson, Pakistan’s jets attacked Kabul, Paktia and Kandahar in Afghanistan. Islamabad says 133 Afghan Taliban fighters were killed in the clashes. However, the Taliban government says eight of their fighters were killed and almost dozen wounded. It added that it killed 55 Pakistani soldiers. The latest flare up follows months of skirmishes between the neighbors. Pakistani officials accuse the Taliban of allowing Afghanistan's territory to be used for terrorism, a claim the group strongly rejects.
