Israel Gaza truce violations
Israel is pressing ahead with its attacks in Gaza, despite the ceasefire agreement with Hamas. A Palestinian man has been killed in an airstrike targeting a town near Khan Yunis, located in the south. A number of other Palestinians, including children, have also been injured in fresh attacks across Gaza. Reports also indicate that Israeli tanks opened heavy fire, targeting eastern neighborhoods of Gaza City. In northern Gaza, the regime forces detonated and demolished homes in Jabalia. Since the ceasefire took effect, more than 340 Palestinians have been killed in the regime’s strikes. Israel’s violations of the truce continue amid harsh humanitarian conditions. A report by Gaza media office says nearly 42% of Gaza’s population receives no meal per day.
Afghanistan-Pakistan clashes
The Taliban-led government in Afghanistan says Pakistani airstrikes have killed at least nine children and a woman in Khost province. The Taliban spokesman said attacks were also carried out in the provinces of Kunar and Paktika, leaving four civilians injured. Islamabad has yet to comment on the strikes. The strikes came just a day after twin suicide bombings in Pakistan’s Peshawar killed three paramilitary personnel. Tensions between the two neighbors have been escalating since October. A ceasefire was signed in Doha last month, but peace talks in Turkey collapsed soon after, with both sides failing to reach agreement over militant groups operating inside Afghanistan.
US anti-immigrant policies
A new survey in the US shows rising pessimism among Latinos under the Trump administration. The Pew Research Center says 70% of Latinos disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job as president. Over two-thirds of them are also critical of the administration’s approach to immigration. According to a separate survey conducted by Axios-Ipsos, some 65% of respondents say it’s a bad time to be Latino or Hispanic in the US. Since Trump came to office in his second term, crackdown against immigrants has worsened.
