Israel hires US firm to push pro-Israel propaganda via ChatGPT

Israel is using social media and AI to promote pro-Israel propaganda amid Gaza genocide.

Israel has hired a new conservative-linked firm to push pro-Israel propaganda among Gen-Z audiences through AI and social media.

Israel has signed a $6 million deal with US-based Clock Tower X LLC to help “train ChatGPT” to produce pro-regime material across AI tools and digital media, Responsible Statecraft reported on September 29.

According to the contract, at least 80% of Clock Tower’s output will be “tailored to Gen Z audiences across platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, podcasts, and other relevant digital and broadcast outlets.”

The quota is at least 50 million impressions monthly. The company will also use “websites and content to deliver GPT framing results on GPT conversations” on behalf of Israel.

Since these systems rely on vast collections of online data, the addition of pro-Israel material into the digital space increases the chance that AI will reproduce such narratives, reinforcing Clock Tower’s preferred position.

As Israel’s popularity wanes among Americans, with a July Gallup poll showing only 9% of 18-34-year-olds supporting its genocidal campaign in Gaza and other surveys confirming a broader decline, the regime is ramping up efforts to influence AI and social media narratives.

Clock Tower is also set to embed its messaging into Salem Media Group programs, a conservative Christian media organization with a large radio network and high-profile shows including the Hugh Hewitt Show, the Larry Elder Show, and the Right View with Lara Trump.

Clock Tower is led by US President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Brad Parscale, who also serves as chief strategy officer for Salem Media Group.

The firm’s main representative is Eran Shayovich, chief of staff at the Israeli regime’s ministry of foreign affairs.

Shayovich’s LinkedIn profile states that he is directing a campaign called “Project 545,” which seeks to “amplify Israel’s strategic communication and public diplomacy efforts.”

The Clock Tower contract does not provide extensive details about the specific themes to be promoted on Israel’s behalf.

In its filing under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, the company notes it has been employed to assist with “executing a nationwide campaign in the United States to combat antisemitism.”

During a meeting with pro-Israel influencers on Friday, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said social media is the most important weapon that Israel possesses.

“We are going to have to use the tools of battle, the weapons change over time … You cannot fight today with swords, that does not work very well … the most important ones are the social media,” he said.

Netanyahu also endorsed the acquisition of TikTok, as a group of pro-Israel investors is working to purchase the social media platform.

Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle and the largest private donor to Israel’s armed forces, is expected to play a major role in the acquisition.

Netanyahu identified TikTok as “the most important purchase going on right now,” alleging its control could be “consequential.”

Meanwhile, Google is executing a $45-million advertising contract with Netanyahu’s office to spread pro-Israel propaganda denying famine in Gaza.

The campaign, launched in June, is run through Google’s YouTube and its Display & Video 360 service.
