Elon Musk has launched his contentious "America Party", prompting new contenders to weigh in on his dispute with his former boss, US President Donald Trump.
The move comes amid a worsening of the dispute between Musk and Trump over the controversial budget bill.
The tech billionaire vowed the formation of the new political party in the United States after seeing the clashing difference between his viewpoint and the way Trump saw fiscal matters after he signed the controversial budget legislation, the so-called “One Big, Beautiful Bill”, into law.
Musk, an important figure in Trump’s reelection who spent a fortune to get him back in office, was made the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
However, he was later at loggerheads with the Trump administration over the much-touted budget bill, fiercely supported by the president, describing it as a “disgusting abomination.”
On Saturday, after officially parting ways with Trump more than two months ago, Musk eventually announced in a post on his popular X, formerly Twitter, social media platform that he had founded his “America Party“.
The owner of SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink and other big companies, said the mission of the new party would be to “give back” freedom and independence to the people of the United States.
He cited a mass poll in which he asked millions of Americans whether they “want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system.”
Musk wrote on X, “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!”
He added, “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Meanwhile, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon criticized Musk for polling his X followers about starting the new political party in the United States.
The Trump loyalist described Musk as a disingenuous "foreigner."
“Only a foreigner could do this,” Bannon said. “Think about it, he’s got up on Twitter right now a poll about starting an American Party – a non-American starting an American Party. No, brother, you’re not an American; you’re a South African.”
Bannon said the billionaire South African-American should be deported from the United States.
“If we take enough time and prove the facts of that, you should be deported,” Bannon insisted on his podcast titled War Room.
Musk hit back on X, calling Bannon a "fat, drunken slob."
