A veteran American journalist and a contributor to Forbes claims that he was sacked from the magazine for exposing financial dealings of the top US infectious diseases expert and White House chief medical advisor, Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Adam Andrzejewski, who worked with Forbes for the last eight years, was shown the exit door over his investigative reporting on Fauci, including a report on his staggering $350,000 retirement package.

“Clearly, Forbes editors didn’t want our oversight of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s finances” Andrzejewski, who is also the CEO and founder of the website OpenTheBooks.com, said in a TV interview on Monday.

Fauci, the chief medical advisor (CMA) to the US president and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) shot to prominence after the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

The journalist said six top executives at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) had sent him an email with complaints over his coverage on Fauci.

“It was couched as a corrections email, but the corrections – there [were] basically no substantial corrections – and they quibbled about small things in my column,

The letter became “the excuse that Forbes used to cancel the column.” He said his pieces on the top US health expert and US President Joe Biden’s advisor were “tip of the spear”.

In his columns, Andrzejewski revealed that Fauci was the highest-paid government employee in 2019, making $456,000 annually, which is more than Biden, who gets $400,000 per year.

Fauci and his wife Christine Grady, who works as the chief bioethicist at the National Institutes of Health, together made $1.7 million in the year 2020.

“So if you take their salaries, tack on the taxpayer-paid cost of federal benefits at 30 percent, the two Faucis, their household income, paid for by taxpayers every year is $900,000,” Andrzejewski said.

Fauci, who has been in the public service for over 50 years, became a household name in the US early 2020 as one of the leading members of the White House COVID-19 response team.

The 80-year-old has advised every American president since Ronald Reagan to Joe Biden. His uncomfortable rapport with the former US President Donald Trump became a fodder for memes.

According to Celebrity Net Worth website, on the basis of the value of his stock investments, Fauci's net worth could be around $10 million.

Earlier this month, Senator Rand Paul warned that Republicans will subpoena Fauci if they take control of the Senate in the mid-term elections.

"If we win in November, if I'm chairman of a committee, if I have subpoena power, we'll go after every one of [Fauci's] records," Paul said during an interview.

Paul has criticized Fauci on measures he has taken or advocated to contain the virus. Both have been engaged in a series of heated exchanges in Senate hearings.
