Iran says Israeli campaign to steer US into ‘unwinnable’ war will ‘soon unravel’

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the Israeli influence campaign aimed at steering the United States into an "unwinnable war of choice" against Iran will "soon unravel," pointing to Israeli manipulation of US policymakers and suppressing dissenting voices.

Araghchi made the remarks in a post on his X account on Friday as US strikes on southern Iranian cities and ports continued for a sixth consecutive day despite a war-ending memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Tehran and Washington.

He said Americans are being warned of “foreign influence”, directly turning the accusation toward the US closest ally in the region.

“Americans are being warned of Foreign Influence. How about the extensive Israeli Campaign to bamboozle the U.S. Administration into an unwinnable war of choice?” he wrote.

The top Iranian diplomat further pointed to an “even worse” point and added that Israel is using US taxpayer funds to silence critical voices in the US.

“It will all soon unravel,” Araghchi added.

The Iranian foreign minister’s post includes a screenshot of a Time magazine investigation that revealed Israeli authorities had paid US President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager and digital strategist Brad Parscale to lead a high-budget influence operation targeting US conservatives.

In an interview published on Wednesday, US Vice-President JD Vance criticized some members of the Israeli cabinet for trying to influence US public opinions to prolong the Iran war.

Vance said while he trusts some people within the Israeli cabinet, there are others "who are manipulating and trying to change American public opinion to keep the war going on indefinitely".

Vance also said individuals connected to figures in the Israeli regime had organized a campaign against him personally, including leaks to journalists and attacks on social media, in an effort to undermine his push for a deal with Iran based on Trump’s guidelines.
