A new national poll shows that presumptive US Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has gained a 10-point lead over President Donald Trump in his bid for the White House.

The CBS News/YouGov poll, released on Sunday, found that 51 percent of registered voters would vote for Biden in the US presidential elections in November, while 41 percent favored Trump.

The poll also showed that four percent of likely voters were undecided, while an additional four percent said they would vote for someone else or a third-party candidate.

The CBS News/YouGov poll was carried out among 2,008 adults from July 21 to 24 with a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points.

Biden’s lead in the national poll comes about 100 days ahead of November’s election.

Anti-Trump sentiment has been rising in the US as the country is beset by the coronavirus crisis and public outrage over racial injustice and police brutality, among other issues.

The United States remains the worst-hit country by the coronavirus pandemic, with some 4.2 million infections and more than 146,000 deaths.

Trump and his administration have been under fire for an untimely relaxing of lockdown measures as well as a blatant disregard for personal protection equipment since the flu-like pathogen erupted in the US early in January.

In the past few weeks, hospitals across the country have reached capacity again as new coronavirus cases continue to rise. At least 27 US states have halted or rolled back their reopening plans to slow the spread of the virus.

Moreover, US cities and states have been the scene of mass protests against police violence and racial injustice since the brutal murder of unarmed African American George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis in late May.

Trump has announced plans for a "surge" of federal forces in major US cities to suppress widespread protests triggered by Floyd's death.
