The Iran men’s national basketball B team has captured its third consecutive victory at the preliminary round of the 2018 William Jones Cup in Taiwan, defeating a contingent from the host nation in the international tournament.

On Tuesday evening, the Iranian sportsmen claimed an 85-75 win against Chinese Taipei Blue in a match staged at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium of New Taipei City.

The Iranian basketball players made a sound start and tallied enough points to claim the first quarter 25-18.

The Taiwanese side, however, came from behind in the second quarter, scoring points to surge ahead. They eventually gained a five-point lead and clinched the quarter 18-13.

The Iranians reclaimed the dominance as the match went into the third quarter. They mounted a string of attacks, and put the opposite side under a relentless spell of pressure to accumulate most of the points and ultimately closed the quarter at 27-13.

In the final quarter, Chinese Taipei Blue rebounded from its previous losses and went to great lengths to assume the superiority. The East Asians could take the quarter by 26 points to 22 at last.

Iran basketball B team achieved its second victory at the 2018 William Jones Cup on Sunday, when it beat Japan B 78-61. It defeated Lithuania’s LSU-Atletas 76-48 in its opening match on Saturday.

The Iranian outfit is scheduled to face 3D Global Sports of Canada on Wednesday.

The 2018 William Jones Cup started on July 14 and will conclude on July 22. The event is a top-level international basketball tournament of FIBA Asia.
