Iranian hoopsters vice champion in Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship

Iranian basketball players have claimed the second place overall at the fourth edition of Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship in Malaysia, slumping to a Chinese side in the final showdown.

The Payame Noor University outfit, which was representing the Islamic Republic of Iran in the four-day tournament at the indoor Maba Stadium in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur, was beaten 13-15 by Civil Aviation University of China in its last game of the tournament on Saturday.

Earlier in the sports event, the Iranian sportsmen had defeated Mongolia’s CITI University 14-13 and secured a spot in the finale.

The fourth edition of Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship kicked off on July 11, and wrapped up on July 14, 2018.

The 3x3 (pronounced three on three) basketball is a form of the game played three a side on one hoop.

The basketball discipline is currently being promoted and structured by FIBA, and the highest tournament for national 3x3 teams is the FIBA 3x3 World Championships.
