Iran basketball team thumps Andorra 21-12 in 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup

Iranian basketball players have posted their sole emphatic victory at the 2018 Fédération Internationale de Basket-ball (FIBA) 3x3 World Cup in the Philippines, routing the Andorran squad in their last fixture of the tournament.

On Sunday, the Iranian team, which had Saeedeh Elli, Masoumeh Esmaeilzadeh Soudjani, Mozhgan Khodadadi and Kimiya Yazdian Tehrani in its line-up, proved its dominance throughout the game, which was played at the multi-purpose and indoor Philippine Arena in Bocaue, and pulled off a 21-12 win against the opposite side.

Earlier in the day, the Iran women’s national 3x3 basketball team had been beaten 12–22 by Russia.

The results came a day after the Iranian sportswomen slumped to two defeats.

The Iranian squad suffered a bitter 7-21 against the United States in its first encounter on Saturday.

Iranian basketball players took on counterparts from Uganda in their second game of the tournament later in the day, and went down to a 10-18 defeat.

The Iran women’s national 3x3 basketball team

The 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup started on June 8 and will wrap up on June 12, 2018. It is co-organized by FIBA.

The Iran women’s national 3x3 basketball team had been drawn along with Andorra, Russia, Uganda and the United States in Pool C of the forthcoming tournament.

The Czech Republic was pitted against Italy, Malaysia, Turkmenistan and Venezuela in Pool A.

Pool B comprised Argentina, China, France, Kazakhstan and Switzerland.

Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, the Philippines and Spain shaped Pool D.

The 3x3 (pronounced three on three) basketball is a form of the game played three a side on one hoop.

The basketball discipline is currently being promoted and structured by FIBA, and the highest tournament for national 3x3 teams is the FIBA 3x3 World Championships.
