Here is a brief look at Press TV newsroom's headlines from 1800 GMT, April 27, 2018 to 0800 GMT, April 28, 2018.

Palestine’s UN appeal

The Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations has demanded swift action by the UN Security Council to end Israeli violence and ensure Palestinians’ right to peaceful protest. Riyad Mansour made the call after Israeli forces killed three protesters and injured nearly 900 others during anti-occupation rallies on Friday. Mansour said suppressing unarmed protesters by gunfire is a cowardly act.

US pressuring North Korea

The US president says Washington will maintain pressure on Pyongyang through sanctions ahead of his expected meeting with North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un. Donald Trump added that the North must completely abandon its nuclear missile program. Trump’s remarks come following a historic meeting between the leaders of North and South Koreas who pledged to work for complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

Armenia Pashinyan’s premiership

Thousands of Armenians flood the streets of Gyumri, demanding that opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan be elected prime minister during a parliamentary vote slated for May 1. Pashinyan who led the rally told his supporters that acting head of government Karen Karapetyan cannot be prime minister. The opposition leader declared himself as the only suitable candidate for the top job. Pashinyan accused the ruling Republican Party of seeking to increase the turmoil and urged his supporters to stage new rallies to pile up pressure on Karapetyan. The acting head of government has refused to hold talks with Pashinyan. The political crisis has deepened in Armenia since Monday when former Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan resigned in the wake of mass protests.

Amnesty’s appeal against Israel

A leading rights group has called for an arms embargo on Israel over what it called the unlawful killing and maiming of Palestinian protesters in Gaza. Amnesty International said the Israeli military is carrying out a murderous assault against protesters, who pose no threat to its forces. The group said the world has watched in horror as Israeli snipers and other troops have attacked Palestinian protesters with live ammunition. It called for an end to symbolic statements of condemnation. It said a comprehensive arms embargo would be a concrete step forward to end the Israeli atrocities.

NATO meeting

Strained relations between the West and Russia overshadow a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels. NATO’s Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg accuses Moscow of pursuing a pattern of dangerous behavior over the past years. But critics say the military alliance is simply using Russia to justify its expansionist policies. Press TV's Jerome Hughes reports from NATO headquarters.

Israel Gaza killings

A Palestinian teenager, who was shot by Israeli forces in the besieged Gaza Strip, has succumbed to his wounds. The 15-year-old was shot on Friday during anti-occupation protests along the so-called buffer zone. This brings to 46 the death toll from Israel’s use of lethal force against Palestinians since the start of anti-occupation protests on March 30. The Palestinian rallies will last until May 15, which coincide with the 70th anniversary of Nakba Day. The day marks the anniversary of the forcible eviction of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homeland by Israelis in 1948.

Lebanon elections

Lebanese expatriates cast their ballots in six Arab countries, ahead of their country's first parliamentary elections in nearly a decade, due on May 6. The voting abroad also marks the first time that Lebanese nationals living overseas are able to cast ballots. Press TV’s Beirut Correspondent Rana Aladdin reports.

US-Germany rift

The US and German leaders seem to have fallen short of ironing out their high-stake differences on trade and NATO during Friday’s talks at the White House. Following three hours of negotiations, German Chancellor Angela Merkel failed to secure an assurance from US President Donald Trump not to impose tariffs on European steel and aluminum products. Speaking during their joint press conference, Merkel suggested that Trump was not convinced to grant such an exemption.
