Iran’s heavyweight powerlifting champion has smashed three world records and won the gold medal at the Rio Paralympics.
In his first attempt in the +107kg category, Siamand Rahman lifted 270 kilograms and broke the Paralympics record at Rio’s Riocentro Pavilion 2 on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old Iranian then benched weights of 300 and 305 kilograms to smash his own world record of 296 kilograms again, and hand Iran their sixth gold medal of the Paralympics Games.
Rahman, who was representing Iran for the second time at the Paralympics, then requested for the weights to be set at staggering 310 kilograms outside the three scoring competition lifts, and triumphantly repeated his astonishing success for a fourth time.
