Israel has concluded a framework agreement worth 8.5 billion shekels ($2.3 billion) to expand illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, which involves the construction of 12,000 new housing units and extensive infrastructure projects.

The agreement was finalized on Monday at a ceremony attended by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, Director General of the Israel Land Authority Yehuda Eliyahu, and Yossi Dagan, who heads the Shomron Regional Council, the body responsible for various Israeli settlements in the northern side of the West Bank.

Israel’s right-wing and conservative Channel 14 television station characterized the deal as a significant advancement intended to broaden settlements and “transform the landscape of the region.”

According to the report, the agreement is expected to “provide substantial momentum” for the expansion of illegal settlements in the area and the modernization of their infrastructure.

According to reports from Israeli and Palestinian rights organizations, there has been a notable increase in violence perpetrated by Israeli occupiers in the occupied West Bank in recent years, including assaults on Palestinian communities, agricultural land, and property.

Since the Gaza genocidal war began in October 2023, the West Bank has experienced a surge in assaults by the Israeli military against Palestinians and their properties.

The Israeli military’s incursions into the West Bank have killed at least 1,179 Palestinians, injured nearly 13,000 others, and resulted in the abduction of approximately 24,000 people and displacement of 33,000, based on official Palestinian statistics.

Palestinians say these assaults are facilitating Israel's plans to formally annex the West Bank, thereby eliminating the potential for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

The Israeli regime was founded in 1948 on territories that were occupied by terrorist Zionist groups, and in 1967, it took control of the remaining Palestinian lands, which include the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and the eastern section of al-Quds.
