On June 18th, Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding, paving the way for a permanent end to the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran in late February.

The agreement came after weeks of intense diplomacy, coupled with Iran's strong military response, including response to sporadic US attacks carried out despite the ceasefire between the two sides.

The war between the US, Iran, and Israel, has now entered a completely new phase, and I think this phase is also one that many ordinary Chinese people, the broader Chinese public, are paying close attention to.

Basically, the fighting has now stopped, and the US and Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding, which I see as a positive development.

Looking at the bigger picture, I believe that the Iranian government and the Iranian people have demonstrated considerable wisdom and firm resolve.

In this context, we think that the political wisdom drawn from its historical experience played a very crucial role for Iran during this war.

Guo Jiakun, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson

Since June last year, the US and Israel have launched two wars of aggression against Iran, while Tehran and Washington were negotiating to resolve a standoff over Iran's nuclear program.

Citing those war of aggression, along with previous US breaches of commitments, Iran insists that the current memorandum of understanding must be implemented on a commitment for commitment basis.

The only thing is that whether the United States could be serious with its commitments, I think on that part the whole international community, including China, will try to help to guarantee the delivering of the seriousness of the commitments. That's very important.

As Iran's strategic partner, how will China translate its influence into enforceable accountability to ensure the memorandum is fully implemented and help secure lasting peace in West Asia?

China has always maintained a fair stance, supporting all efforts that contribute to peace and helping Iran safeguard its sovereignty and national dignity.

China supports Iran in improving its relations with countries in the Persian Gulf region and other regional countries.

China is willing to continue providing assistance in its own way, in line with the spirit of President Xi Jinping's four propositions, and to play a constructive role in restoring regional peace and stability as soon as possible.

Analysts believe China can also play a major role in post-war reconstruction in Iran.

We have a very strong capability of building [sic], the constructions, you know, the Belt and Road Initiative, so I think with the new advanced technologies and green policy, green investments upheld by the Chinese government.

Miao Zhongquan, Director, Center for Global Development

Iran has single-handedly safeguarded its peace in the battlefield, yet lasting common prosperity and security in the West Asia region require global powers to respect it, which is where China's strategic partnership with Tehran comes in.

Beijing, as a global power, is well positioned to press the United States and its allies to honor their obligations under the MOU, making it far more difficult for any sort of backtracking.
