Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a statement categorically denying recent US media reports claiming he had been in contact with American envoy Steve Witkoff, stating that his last communication with the envoy occurred before Washington's decision to "kill diplomacy" through another illegal military attack on Iran.
"My last contact with Mr. Witkoff was prior to his employer's decision to kill diplomacy with another illegal military attack on Iran," Araghchi said in a post on social media. "Any claim to the contrary appears geared solely to mislead oil traders and the public."
The foreign minister's statement came in response to a report by Axios news outlet, which claimed that a direct communications channel between Witkoff and Araghchi had been reactivated in recent days.
Axios cited a US official and a source with knowledge of the matter, alleging that Araghchi had sent text messages to Witkoff.
Araghchi and Witkoff previously held three rounds of nuclear talks before the latest US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran, which began on February 28.
They also conducted five rounds of discussions prior to the June 2025 aggression by Israel and the United States.
In both instances, Iran was subjected to surprise illegal attacks despite ongoing diplomatic engagement.
Araghchi has previously stated that there are no further talks on the agenda with the United States.
The US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran, now in its third week, has resulted in thousands of civilian casualties, including the Minab school massacre and attacks on Gandhi Hospital in Tehran.
Iran has consistently maintained its right to self-defense under international law while rejecting further negotiations with an adversary that has repeatedly demonstrated bad faith.
