Gaza ceasefire violations

The Israeli military is continuing attacks across the Gaza Strip and causing more casualties despite a ceasefire agreement. A child was among those injured in attacks on tents for displaced Palestinians near the so-called Netzarim corridor. Israeli warplanes and tanks also targeted the northern Gaza City. Attacks also continued in and around Khan Yunis in the south, injuring two more civilians. The Palestinian death toll since a ceasefire was agreed in Gaza is close to 600 while over 16,000 have been injured. The death toll since October 2023 when Israel launched the genocide in Gaza stands above 72,000.

Iran slams Munich 'circus'

Iran’s foreign minister says the usually serious Munich Security Conference has turned into the “Munich Circus” when it comes to Iran. Abbas Araghchi criticized the European Union for being confused and unable to understand developments inside Iran. He stated that Europe has lost its geopolitical weight in West Asia. Iran’s top diplomat stressed that the paralysis and irrelevance of the EU and E3 is displayed in the dynamics surrounding the current talks over Iran’s nuclear program. Araghchi added that Europe was once a major player but is now ‘nowhere to be seen.’ He said Iran’s regional partners are far more effective and supportive than the ‘empty-handed and peripheral’ E3.

Iran condemns Pelosi remarks

Iran has strongly condemned calls in Washington to tighten sanctions, saying that US officials are openly advocating economic pain against the Iranian people. The remarks followed reports that former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had called for increased economic pressure on Iran, saying ordinary citizens including those in rural areas should “feel the pain.” In response, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei described the comments as evidence of a deliberate attempt to impose suffering on civilians for political ends. He argued that intentionally targeting a nation’s population through economic measures crosses both legal and moral lines and aligns with classical definitions of terrorism. He said no government has the right to base its policies on the suffering of another country’s people. Iranian officials maintain that sweeping sanctions harm ordinary citizens more than governments, worsening inflation and financial pressure on families.
