Torture in Israeli jails

Two former Palestinian prisoners have recounted the horrific abuse that they personally experienced in Israeli prisons, including routine beatings, sexual assault, and torture. In an interview with BBC news channel, Sami Al-Saei, a former journalist from Tulkarm, said he was held without charge for sixteen months at Megiddo Prison. He said Israeli guards partially stripped him, beat him every day, and sexually assaulted him with a baton. Another former prisoner, identified only as Ahmed, described similar treatment, including being stripped, beaten, and sexually humiliated. The new revelations came after five human rights groups submitted a report to the United Nations, documenting "a dramatic escalation in torture" in Israeli jails, since the Gaza war began. They said such abuses are carried out with "near total impunity" as Israel’s official policy. Their report cited at least 94 Palestinian deaths in Israeli custody between October 2023 and the end of August 2025. There are currently over nine-thousand Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

Israel West Bank incursions

Pressing ahead with their violent raids against Palestinians in the West Bank, Israeli forces have killed two youngsters in separate attacks across the occupied territory. According to local sources, a Palestinian child was killed after being shot by Israeli forces’ live fire in the town of Qabatiya, south of Jenin. The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that 16-year-old Rayyan Mohammad Abu Mualla lost his life after being directly targeted by Israeli forces during a raid on the town. The regime’s forces then prevented ambulance crews from reaching him, leaving the child bleeding for a long time before abducting his body. The new fatality came after earlier the same day, 22-year-old Ahmad Zyoud was also fatally shot during a separate Israeli raid on the town of Silat al-Harithiya, west of Jenin. The new deaths increased to 62 the overall death toll from the regime’s military aggression against Jenin and its refugee camp, which started in January. A 52-year-old Palestinian man was also shot in the foot in another Israeli raid in the town of al-Ram, north of the occupied city of al-Quds.

US-Venezuela tensions

The Venezuelan government has strongly condemned the seizure of another vessel transporting oil by US military forces, describing it as a "serious act of international piracy." Caracas made the statement after US forces seized a second oil tanker off the coast of the South American country. Venezuela said it categorically denounces and rejects the theft and hijacking of a private vessel transporting the country’s oil, and the forced disappearance of its crew in international waters. It added that the colonial model that the US is trying to impose through such measures will fail and will be defeated by the will of the Venezuelan people. Caracas emphasized that US actions will not go unpunished, and it will take all necessary countermeasures. The Venezuelan government said the US' aggressive actions will be reported to the UN Security Council, as well as other multilateral organizations. According to American media, the ship seized by US forces is a giant oil tanker flying the Panamanian flag, and the oil it carries is owned by a Chinese company. The ship was the second of its kind to be seized by US forces in less than two weeks.
