A high-level Iranian media delegation visited Moscow this week to enhance strategic media cooperation between the two countries.

Led by Mohammadreza Norouzpour, Deputy Minister for Media Affairs at the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the delegation engaged in wide-ranging discussions with Russian counterparts focused on expanding collaboration in cultural, artistic, and scientific fields through the capacities of both countries’ media sectors.

During the fifth meeting of the Iran-Russia Joint Media Cooperation Working Group, Norouzpour emphasized the critical role of media in fostering deeper mutual understanding between the Iranian and Russian peoples.

He underscored the importance of joint efforts to combat disinformation, warning that fake news erodes the ethical foundations of journalism.

He further called for harnessing shared media capabilities to counter false narratives and to offer accurate, balanced representations of both countries on the international stage.

Norouzpour also proposed simplifying visa procedures for journalists and media professionals in Iran and Russia to support closer media cooperation and cultural exchange.

He also proposed creative collaboration between Iran and Russia on producing joint documentaries, films, and television series that showcase the rich cultural, political, economic, and tourism landscapes of the two countries.

Elena Cherkesova, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Communications and Mass Media, stressed the strategic importance of media cooperation as part of the comprehensive strategic agreement signed during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Moscow in January 2025.

She conveyed the interest of several major Russian media organizations, including RT (Russia Today), in expanding their presence and broadcasting operations in Iran.

The Iranian delegation included representatives from leading Iranian media outlets such as IRIB, IRNA, ISNA, Tasnim, Khabar Online, and Nour News.

IRIB World Service was represented by Vice President Ehsan Kaveh.
