Evacuations, clean up begin in southern China flood-hit cities

Rescues evacuated residents in flood-hit cities across southern China after historic floods swept across Hunan province while inundating cities in neighboring Hubei and Jiangxi provinces.

Footage showed rescue personnel cleaning up mud and debris from the streets of Hunan's Pingjiang county, and pumping out floodwater brought by heavy rainfall.

Pingjiang County, located next to Miluo River, experienced record flooding after the water level rose 7.02 meters above the alert level, the highest since 1954.
