US-Israeli genocide in Gaza
More Palestinian civilians are killed as Israel’s indiscriminate airstrikes and artillery fire continue to pound various parts of the besieged Gaza Strip. An Israeli strike on a house in the Nusseirat refugee camp in central Gaza has killed the mayor of the camp and four members of his family. Iyad al-Maghari was the third head of a municipality in Gaza to be killed in the regime’s attacks. Another airstrike targeted a home in Gaza City, killing one Palestinian. The al-Bureij refugee camp near Gaza City was shelled by Israeli tanks, as the regime’s gun-boats attacked Rafah city’s coast in the south. The new attacks came after a deadly Israeli strike on a school in the Nusseirat camp killed at least 40 civilians, including nine women and 14 children. Nearly 70 Palestinians were killed across Gaza during the past 24 hours. Israel’s genocide has claimed the lives of nearly 36,700 Palestinians so far, most of them women and children.
Gaza school attack
Condemnations are pouring in over Israel’s deadly airstrike on a UN-run school in central Gaza, which killed over 40 displaced Palestinian civilians sheltering there. UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres condemned the attack as another horrific example of the price Palestinian civilians are paying to survive. He also urged accountability for everything that has happened in Gaza. For his part, EU foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, called for an independent probe into the Israeli massacre, which he described as appalling. He said hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians are still facing violence and suffering in Gaza. UNRWA chief, Philippe Lazzarini, confirmed that the deadly strike came without any prior warning to thousands of Palestinians sheltering at the school. Israeli rights group B'Tselem called the attack a suspected war crime. It said the killing of civilians has become an unavoidable result of Israel's onslaught on Gaza.
Gaza ceasefire talks
A senior Hamas official has dismissed the Gaza ceasefire plan proposed by the US President Joe Biden as "just words," without any practical guarantees. Osama Hamdan said the Americans have not presented anything documented or written that would commit them to what Biden said in his speech. He noted that the US is trying to cover up Israel’s rejection of another deal offered earlier in May, which had been approved by Hamas. Hamdan reiterated that Hamas is willing to accept any deal that meets its core demands, including a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops. Biden presented the three-phase peace plan last week. However, Israel has not yet given a clear response to it and continues its reckless bombings across Gaza, killing more civilians.
