Ukraine’s army might deplete its air defense ammunition by the end of this month, and as it is grappling with shortages of air defense missiles, according to a report.

Ukrainian officials shared their concerns regarding the rapidly dwindling supplies of missiles with their European and American counterparts at a security conference last month, The Washington Post said

The American newspaper cited one of the officials as saying that while Ukraine is currently trying to shoot down four out of every five missiles aiming for its cities, it soon may be able to intercept just one in five.

This will have a “significant effect on Ukraine’s urban centers”, the two Ukrainian officials told US officials at the conference, according to The Washington Post.

That comes as a political stalemate in Washington has hindered an increase in missile supplies for Ukrainian air defenses. The Senate has passed an emergency aid bill, including $60.1 billion for Ukraine, but it is currently held up in the House of Representatives by Republican opposition.

The warning also comes as Russia has reportedly ramped up missile and drone attacks on Ukraine.

The Telegraph quoted officials in Russia as saying that they know Ukraine is running out of ammunition and have decided that this is the time to strike.

However, Rybar, a Russian Telegram channel linked to the Russian Ministry of Defense, said Ukrainian forces appeared to be relatively well-armed.

“The enemy has an abundance of drones. Not only vehicles and armored vehicles, but even individual soldiers are subject to drops and strikes from first-person view drones, which indicates that there is no shortage of weapons,” it said.

Russia launched the military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Western countries have responded to the Russian military operation by backing Ukraine with cash and heavy weaponry while imposing unprecedented sanctions on Russian officials and entities.

Moscow has repeatedly warned that such a flow of weapons to Kiev will only prolong the conflict.
