Situation in Niger

Niger’s military rulers have given the French, German, and Nigerian ambassadors 48 hours to leave the African country. Niger’s foreign ministry in separate statements said the decision to expel the ambassadors was taken partly due to their refusal to respond to an invitation to a meeting with Niger's minister of foreign affairs. The statements added that other actions by these governments have been contrary to the interests of Niger. Paris, however, has dismissed the ultimatum saying, Niger's junta 'have no authority' to ask the French ambassador to leave. Germany and Nigeria have not yet commented on the order. On Friday Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of a French military base in Niamey, calling for the departure of the foreign forces.
