Algeria FM visits Iran

Iran’s foreign minister has hailed Algeria’s support for Palestine as he met with his Algerian counterpart in Tehran. In a joint presser, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian lauded Algeria for its objection to Israel’s observer status in the African Union. The objection had led to the expulsion of the regime’s delegation from the bloc’s summit in February. Amir-Abdollahian also pointed to the fighting in Sudan, calling for achieving a lasting ceasefire through dialogue. The top Iranian diplomat urged the expansion of ties between Tehran and Algiers in various areas including energy, industry and technology. Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, for his part, called for boosting bilateral relations.

Pro-Palestine protest

People in the US city of New York have staged a protest rally to denounce Israeli atrocities against Palestinians and Washington’s support for the regime. The protesters gathered in front of the UN headquarters. They expressed solidarity with the Palestinians and demanded the US end its cooperation with Israel. Some of the protesters carried placards reading -- end the occupation now and Judaism rejects Zionism. The rally came a day after Israeli forces raided the west bank city of Nablus, killing two young Palestinian men. Israel has intensified its deadly crackdown across the occupied territories. Just days ago, the Israeli military launched a deadly offensive in city of Jenin, killing a dozen Palestinians and injuring scores more. The UN Chief referred to the raids as the worst violence in the West Bank in many years. The UN also warned that the regime’s atrocities may constitute war crimes.

Slamming desecration of Qur'an

The Pakistani government has declared Friday as the official “Day of the Sanctity of the Holy Qur'an” in protest at its desecration in Sweden. Demonstrations were held all over the country while parliament passed a resolution urging the Swedish government to take legal action against the man who desecrated the Muslims’ holy book.
