Israel al-Aqsa violations

Large groups of Israeli settlers once again storm the al-Aqsa mosque compound in occupied al-Quds, in an attempt to challenge the status quo of the holy site. Israeli settlers entered the compound while escorted by regime troopers. Videos posted online show settlers doing rituals in violation of the holy site’s status quo, which designates any non-Muslim entries as desecrations. This comes as tensions are running high in the occupied territories over the recent spate of Israeli violence against Palestinians. That’s only days to go before Quds Day, on the last Friday of the Muslim-calendar month of Ramadan. In recent days, Israeli forces launched several raids on the al-Aqsa mosque compound, beating Palestinian worshipers and forcing them out of the holy site.

China Taiwan drills

China’s military drills near Taiwan enter their third day, as tensions boil over Taipei’s ties with Washington. China says it has simulated sealing off the island. Beijing also says fighter jets, carrying live ammunition, have conducted mock strikes near Taiwan. China announced the three-day war games, following a meeting between Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and US house speaker Kevin McCarthy in the US. China views Taiwan as part of its territory. Taiwan's defense ministry says it detected over 10 Chinese warships and nearly 60 aircraft around the island on Monday. Meanwhile, the US Navy says it sailed a guided-missile destroyer through waters claimed by Beijing in the South China Sea on Monday. China has now reacted to that, saying the vessel illegally intruded into its territorial waters.

Leaked Pentagon files

The United States is assessing how a recent major leak of highly classified documents could impact its national security as well as its allies and partners. That’s according to the Department of Defense. The Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary says an interagency effort has been launched to assess the possible impacts of the leak. Sabrina Singh added that the Pentagon is still reviewing the validity of photographed documents that were posted on social media in recent weeks. The Justice Department has also launched an investigation into the leak. The documents reveal that the US has been meddling in the Russia-Ukraine war, containing information on Washington’s support for Kiev. The leaked files also show how the US has been spying on Ukraine’s political and military leaders as well as other key allies such as Israel and South Korea.
