The Palestinian foreign ministry has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to complete its ongoing investigations into Israeli crimes against Palestinians and hold the occupying regime to account for its decades of violations of international law.

The ministry, in a statement on Sunday, urged the international community to exert real pressure on the occupying regime to stop its bloody escalation against the Palestinian people, Ma’an news agency reported.

The statement called on “the International Criminal Court to quickly complete its investigations in order to hold the occupying [regime] and the perpetrators accountable.”

“The occupation practices extrajudicial killings, field executions, and firing live bullets at Palestinian citizens, with the aim of killing and degrading the lives of Palestinian citizens, under instructions from the political and military echelons of the occupying [regime],” it said.

“The Israeli occupation authorities are fully and directly responsible for the ongoing crimes against our people, their land, homes, properties, and sanctities, which have led since the beginning of this year to the martyrdom of 12 citizens, including 3 children, and the last of them were 3 martyrs in embryo.”

The Palestinian foreign ministry also noted that the violations and crimes committed by the occupation will only increase the Palestinian people’s insistence on upholding their rights, saying the increase in such crimes indicates that the current year will be worse than the previous year.

Last month, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki handed over to the ICC’s prosecutor a file on the Israeli crimes committed against Palestinian people, saying the state of Palestine continues to cooperate with the World Court and the staff of the prosecutor’s office to prove that Israeli military and civilian officials have perpetrated serious and continuous crimes against Palestinians.

The Palestinian minister also said bringing the criminals before international justice will contribute to the protection of the Palestinian people and will deter crimes committed against them.

Israeli forces launch raids on various cities of the occupied West Bank almost on a daily basis under the pretext of detaining what they call “wanted” Palestinians. The raids usually lead to violent confrontations with residents.

Over the past months, Israel has ramped up attacks on Palestinian towns and cities throughout the occupied territories. As a result of these attacks, dozens of Palestinians have lost their lives and many others have been arrested.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has marked 2022 as the deadliest year for Palestinians in the West Bank in 16 years.

Israeli forces killed at least 171 Palestinians in the West Bank and occupied East al-Quds in 2022, including more than 30 children. At least 9,000 others were also injured.

Reacting to fresh Israeli crimes, the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement said in a statement on Friday that it holds Israel accountable for its continued crimes and violations against Palestinians and reaffirms that the occupying regime’s acts of aggression will not go unnoticed.
