Russia considering switch from UEFA to Asian football

Russia is on the brink of switching sides from Europe to Asia, after UEFA banned them from qualification for the Euro 2024 following the continuation of war in Ukraine.

Russia and its clubs have been removed from all UEFA and FIFA competitions since the conflict began in February, and their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport was dismissed in July.

Now that the ban is extended to the next edition of Euros in Germany, Russia’s national team head-coach, Valery Karpin, has speculated about a bold move, saying that it is foreseeable for the country to part ways with UEFA and instead join the Asian Football Confederation.

Regardless of that, Russia’s national team still carry on with their preparation plans, as a friendly match between them and Iran is on the table, for November 15 or 16, in either Doha or Tehran.
