US Open: Medvedev wins title by beating Djokovic

Daniil Medvedev has won his first major tournament after crushing Novak Djokovic's calendar Grand Slam dream in the US Open final.

Medvedev was in command, storming to a 6-4, 6-4 and again 6-4, victory, while Djokovic was left unable to follow his triumphs at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon earlier in the year.

The World No. 1 did not have his usual spark throughout the match as he failed to clinch the 21st Grand Slam title, which would have taken him past the tallies of his great rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

On the contrary, second seed Medvedev held his composure until the very end to secure his maiden Grand Slam.

Rod Laver in 1969 was the last man to win all majors in one calendar year.
