FIFA boss Infantino subject to crimianl proceedings

A Swiss special prosecutor has opened criminal proceedings against FIFA President Gianni Infantino relating to dealings with the country's attorney general.

The prosecutor was appointed last month to examine complaints made in relation to the meetings involving Infantino and Switzerland’s attorney general Michael Lauber, who resigned from his position last week.

A statement from the Federal Council says that there are indications of criminal conduct, but both Infantino and Lauber have denied any wrongdoing.

The probe is also looking into Lauber’s handling of FIFA corruption allegations, which pre-dated Infantino’s election as president.

Infantino became FIFA president in 2016, after his predecessor Sepp Blatter was forced to resign on charges of fraud and corruption.
