Iran-Russia-China naval forces launch counter-insurgency operations

The Sea of Oman was the focal point of counter-insurgency and counter-piracy operations practiced by the naval forces of Iran, Russia and China on the second day of their joint military drills.

The drills provided a multi-threat training environment where the three navies practiced deployment preparations as a combined joint task force. Speaking to reporters, the commander of the Russian flotilla described the strategic region as a focal point of geopolitical tensions in 2019. He said the drills are intended to promote security and peace in the region.

Speaking to Press TV, the deputy commander of Iranian navy said that the second day of naval drills covers an area of 17,000 square kilometers and consists of various tactical exercises, which include target practice and rescuing ships from assaults and fires.

The Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman are among the world's key trade routes. The four-day drills are also aimed at boosting cooperation among the navies of the three countries, displaying their will and capabilities to jointly maintain peace and maritime security of these strategic regions.

The four-day military exercise by the naval forces of Iran, Russia and China will wrap up on Monday, December 30.
