World Cup 2018: Iran defeat Morocco 1-0 in Group B opener

Iran’s football team has beaten African side Morocco 1-0 in the Group B opener of world cup 2018 in St. Petersburg, thanks to an own goal in added time.

The game was heading for a goalless draw when substitute Aziz Bouhaddouz stunned the crowd by putting the ball into his team’s own net with a diving header at the near post in the 95th minute to give Iran 3 points.

The result was absolutely heartbreaking for Morocco who has made their first appearance in the World Cup after 20 years.

Meanwhile, this was Iran's first World Cup match win since 1998 after a 2-1 win over the United States in France. The team will now go on to face Spain in their second match on Wednesday, 20th of June.
