Iranian freestyle wrestler Hassan Yazdani Charati has been elected as the world’s best athlete in the final United World Wrestling rankings for 2017, thanks to the mix of prime hand-to-hand combat skills and complex tactics he made use of during the 2017 World Wrestling Championships in France.

The 22-year-old Iranian sportsman claimed the top spot, and was named the only wrestler who has had shown the best performance in the 6 weight classes of men’s freestyle so far.

According to the United World Wrestling, Yazdani Charati kicked off his campaign at the 2017 World Championships with three straight technical superiority victories over his opponents.

In the semifinals, the Iranian wrestler defeated Vladislav Valiev from Russia 4-0 to make his first debut in the world finals.

He shut out Slovakian contestant Boris Makoiev 10-0 in the gold medal bout on August 26, and received his first world championship.
