Veteran Iranian wrestler Hosseinpour dies of colon cancer

Iran’s veteran wrestler Nasser Hosseinpour has died of colon cancer after suffering a nearly three-year-long battle with the malady that had invaded other parts of his body, and had even struck him with a brain hemorrhage.

Hosseinpour passed away at his home in the northern city of Juybar, located more than 270 kilometers north of the capital Tehran, at 2:30 a.m. on Monday (2300 Sunday). He was 56 years old at the time.

 The late Iranian athlete had collected gold medals at the International Military Sports Council (CISM) World Games and Junior World Championships.

He was also a bronze medalist in Dan Kolov and Nikola Petrov International Tournament and Medved Cup.

Iranian wrestler and two-time World Champion Reza Yazdani – nicknamed The Leopard of Juybar, freestyle wrestler Komeil Nemat Ghasemi, freestyle wrestler Hassan Yazdani Cherati and veteran wrestler Askari Mohammadian had lately visited Hosseinpour, and paid tribute to him and the honors he brought to Iran.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Wrestling Federation extended its condolences to Hosseinpour’s bereaved family in a message on Monday.
