A French nursery school teacher, who had alleged that he was attacked and stabbed in his classroom by a supporter of the Daesh terror group, has admitted to fabricating the story.

Prosecutors said on Monday that they are still questioning the 45-year-old teacher of a school in Aubervilliers, northeast of Paris, to find out the reason why he made up the story.

The teacher had earlier claimed that he was attacked by a man in overalls and a balaclava while he was preparing his class on Monday, adding that the assailant used a box cutter and scissors that were in the room to assault him.

The instructor, who had sustained light stab wounds in his side and throat, further claimed that the attacker shouted: "This is Daesh. This is a warning.”

The anti-terrorism branch of the Paris prosecutor's office launched an investigation after the incident.

Daesh’s French-language magazine, so-called Dar-al-Islam, recently urged its followers to kill teachers in the French education system for teaching secularism and for being "in open war against the Muslim family."

Paris has been on high alert since assailants struck at least six different venues in and around the city on November 13 and left at least 130 people killed and over 350 others injured. Daesh claimed responsibility for the attacks. The attacks drew worldwide condemnation, including from Muslims.

Last week, the French government drew up a draft law to extend the state of emergency for up to six months from the current three-month limit.
