Iran has in the strongest terms condemned Saudi Arabia’s recent airstrikes on a hospital run by the medical aid group, Doctors Without Borders, also known as MSF, in Yemen.

Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham on Wednesday said the military campaign against Yemen is aimed at full destruction of the country, adding that the relentless air assaults carried out on a daily basis have brought about a “very grave and horrific humanitarian situation” in the war-hit Arab country.

Yemen has been pushed to the verge of a humanitarian crisis, the Iranian official said, adding that Saudi Arabia tries to block the few remaining pathways for delivering humanitarian and medical aid to the Yemeni people.

The MSF hospital, located in the Hidan district of Yemen's northwestern province of Sa’ada, was hit by a series of air raids on Monday night.

MSF country director, Hassan Boucenine, said the hospital was seriously damaged when it came under several air attacks.

“It could be a mistake, but the fact of the matter is it's a war crime. There's no reason to target a hospital,” Boucenine added.

At least six people were injured during the airstrikes, according to reports.

The Iranian official also lashed out at the international community for failing to take proper measures to put an end to the war against Yemen.

Unfortunately, continued silence and a weak response by the United Nations Security Council and the international community to the incident have given aggressors a free hand and emboldened them to commit appalling crimes against the defenseless people of Yemen, Afkham said.

Yemen has been under Saudi airstrikes on a daily basis since Riyadh launched its military aggression against the impoverished country on March 26 in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to the fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.

Over 7,000 people have lost their lives in the Saudi attacks while nearly 14,000 others have been injured.
