Yemen warns Saudi Arabia of ‘serious consequences’ if aggression, blockade persist
Yemen’s Foreign Ministry has warned Saudi Arabia of “adverse and serious consequences” if it escalates its attacks by targeting civilian infrastructure, and tightens the blockade of ports and airports in Yemen.
“The criminal Saudi regime must cease its aggression and blockade against our country, or else face the consequences,” the ministry said in a statement released late on Monday.
It added that the Riyadh regime treats the Republic of Yemen as a territory under its control and guardianship.
“If it were serious about Yemen’s sovereignty and independence, it would have declared its complete withdrawal from the country. This is while the criminal Saudi regime treats us arrogantly and condescendingly anytime it allows its ships carrying food and medicine to dock at Yemeni ports,” the statement read.
The ministry stressed that Yemenis have not and will not forget the massacre of tens of thousands of civilians, especially women and children, as a result of Saudi aggression over the past 12 years.
It also emphasized that Saudi authorities need to realize that the status quo at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh should be the same as that of Sana’a International Airport, and that the situation of the port cities of Yanbu and Jizan on the Red Sea coast should be the same as that of Yemen’s Hudaydah Port.
“The criminal and reckless Saudi regime must know that return to the path of righteousness, justice, and equity is far less costly than insistence on the wrong path of aggression,” the statement added.
The Yemeni Foreign Ministry further noted that the nation’s demands are crystal clear and include complete independence, unlimited sovereignty, and legitimate rights.
“The Yemeni nation will not accept anything less, regardless of the scale and scope of developments,” the statement read.
The Yemeni ministry further noted that the Saudi regime is attempting to hide behind its mercenaries, stressing that the fact that Saudi Arabia has carried out a quarter of a million airstrikes on various regions across Yemen conclusively proves the reality of what has occurred.
Yemen on Monday declared “a maritime blockade” on Saudi Arabia effective immediately.
Military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a televised statement that a ban on Saudi-linked maritime navigation “has entered into force from the moment of issuing this statement.”
Saree warned that any Saudi escalation would be met with a “comprehensive and severe response.”
