Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has dismissed US President Donald Trump’s derogatory remarks about the Iranian nation, stating that Iranians do not respond to "vulgarity with vulgarity" but with action "fearlessly and with great valor."

"Addressing the Civilized and Courageous Nation of Iran with derogatory language does not diminish its Greatness," Araghchi wrote in a post on X on Wednesday.

"Iranians are known for their civility, culture, and strong moral values. We do not answer vulgarity with vulgarity, but with action: fearlessly and with great valor."

The foreign minister's response came after Trump, speaking at a NATO summit in Ankara, called Iranians "scum" and "sick people" and declared the ceasefire agreement "over."

"I think it's over. I don't want to deal with them anymore. They're scum, they're led by sick people, and they're vicious, violent people," Trump told reporters.

The fresh insults came amid an escalation of hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz, with the United States launching strikes on over 80 Iranian targets after Iran struck three commercial ships transiting the waterway without coordination.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said it hit 85 US military targets in Persian Gulf states in response.

Iran's top negotiator, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, also said the US was in breach of the ceasefire agreement, citing the latest military strikes, renewed oil sanctions, violations of Iranian "adjustments" in the Strait of Hormuz, and continued Israeli attacks against Lebanon.

"The era of bullying and extortion is over," Qalibaf wrote on X. "We don't fold."
