South African government on alert as Afrophobic tensions rise

South Africa has witnessed a nationwide shutdown, with the government deploying extensive security measures to prevent an outbreak of deadly violence.

The move came as protests were planned against the presence of foreign nationals in what some have described as a wave of Afrophobia.
