Mossad agent convicted of espionage, sabotage operations executed: Iran’s judiciary

A ringleader of a Mossad spy network was executed after he was convicted of collaborating with the Israeli intelligence service and carrying out multiple sabotage and terrorist operations inside and outside the country, the Iranian Judiciary announced on Tuesday.

Gholamreza Khani Shokrab, who was executed following the confirmation of his death sentence by the Supreme Court, had been recruited by the Mossad during his travels to neighboring countries under the guise of sports competitions.

He was engaged in attracting clients for extortion and intimidation services, which made him a target for Israeli intelligence operatives.

According to the indictment, a handler posing as a client approached Khani through social media, seeking a violent individual for a specific task.

Khani accepted the offer and was paid to assault and incapacitate a person in Tehran under the pretext of a financial dispute, with the goal of keeping the victim bedridden for at least six months.

That mission marked the beginning of his formal collaboration with the Mossad, which continued until his arrest.

Khani went on to lead a network of operatives inside Iran, recruiting individuals and assigning them missions ordered by Mossad officers.

Among the operations he coordinated were acid attacks on vehicles belonging to targeted individuals, arson and destruction of public property, bomb-making, and sending explosive devices to Tehran to create insecurity at multiple locations.

He also provided photographs and documentation of targeted sites to his Israeli handlers in exchange for cryptocurrency and cash payments, both from inside and outside Iran.

The most significant operation attributed to Khani was an attempted assassination of a Jewish rabbi in a regional country.

According to his confession, Mossad tasked him with identifying the rabbi’s residence and gathering intelligence to pave the way for a hit.

Khani traveled to the country, photographed the target and his location, and sent the information to his handler.

However, the plot failed when the local security service arrested him. He was later released following intervention by Mossad.

Iranian intelligence officials said the attempted assassination of a Jewish figure was part of a Zionist scheme to frame Iran for anti-Semitic acts while advancing Mossad’s own objectives.

Khani, who had a criminal record of brawling and hooliganism in one of Iran’s provinces, was eventually lured back into Iran through a sophisticated intelligence operation involving deception and finally arrested by the IRGC’s intelligence organization.

During his trial, Khani confessed to all charges, including knowingly collaborating with a hostile intelligence service, receiving substantial sums, and carrying out acts of sabotage and violence against both state and public property.

The court found his actions to have caused severe damage to national security, both domestic and foreign.

The execution was carried out on Tuesday morning after all legal procedures, including the final approval of the Supreme Court, were completed.

Iran says the Israeli regime uses spy networks and mercenaries to destabilize the country, particularly following the US-Israeli war of aggression that began on February 28.

Tehran has announced the dismantling of several Mossad-linked cells in recent months and has vowed to continue its crackdown on espionage activities.
