Trump, Netanyahu would be hanged for war crimes if stood trial: Political scientist

A leading American political scientist and international relations scholar says US President Donald Trump and Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be hanged for war crimes if they were brought to the Nuremberg trials.

“If there were Nuremberg trials where the Israelis and the Americans were brought before the court, President Trump along with … Netanyahu and many of their advisors would be hanged," John Mearsheimer said in a podcast released on social media.

He was referring to a series of military trials after World War II for Nazi German leaders accused of executing genocide and launching a war of aggression.

Mearsheimer also denounced the United States and the Israeli regime for launching with “no provocation” two acts of aggression against Iran, including the one in June 2025 and the ongoing assault against the country.

“We did not even made any attempt to argue that the Iranians had done something militarily to precipitate our attack on Iran,” he added.

The political scientist further censured the US and Israel for assassinating leaders as well as for waging a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

The recent criminal US-Israeli aggression on Iran began on February 28 with airstrikes that assassinated senior Iranian officials and commanders.

The enemies have deliberately targeted energy facilities and civilian infrastructure across Iran, including schools, hospitals, and airports, killing hundreds of civilians.

The Iranian armed forces have responded by launching almost daily missile and drone operations targeting locations in the Israeli‑occupied territories as well as US military bases and assets across the region.
