Iran urges global condemnation of US-Israeli aggression, gets strong support

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian (R) and Russian President Vladimir Putin

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has urged international bodies to denounce the US-Israeli aggression against Iran’s civilian infrastructure and ordinary people, stressing the need to hold them accountable for their crimes.

In a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, Pezeshkian discussed the key bilateral cooperation issues and regional developments following the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.

Putin reiterated Russia’s opposition to military aggression against Iran and declared his country’s readiness to provide necessary assistance to end the regional conflicts as quickly as possible.

The presidents of the two countries also emphasized the need to continue high level consultation.

This was the second phone conversation between the two presidents since the beginning of the US-Israeli aggression against Iran on February 28.

Separately, Pezeshkian stated that the Islamic Republic has no intention of targeting or engaging in conflict with regional countries. In a phone conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he reiterated that only military bases from which attacks are launched against Iranian territory will be targeted in accordance with Iran's right to self-defense.

Pezeshkian condemned the aggressors' use of neighboring countries’ territories to attack Iranian infrastructure, hospitals, and schools. In one attack on a school in Minab, 168 innocent students were killed.

While underscoring Iran's defensive strategy, the president reassured that Tehran's actions are strictly in response to aggression. Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan's firm stance against the attacks on Iran. He expressed hope that under the new leadership, Iran would continue to prosper.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of further strengthening bilateral ties between Tehran and Islamabad, as well as fostering closer cooperation among Muslim countries in the region.

They also agreed to continue high-level diplomatic consultations.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also held a phone talk with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, emphasizing Iran’s determination to continue defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He pointed to the United Nations Security Council’s responsibility to address the blatant violations of peace and international security caused by the aggressive actions of the US and Israel, warning that any indifference to their ongoing crimes would jeopardize the security of the entire region and the world.

Lavrov for his part condemned the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran and congratulated Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei on his election as Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

He also expressed Russia’s readiness to mobilize its collective efforts to bolster regional security.

UN chief: No doubt about Iran’s right to self‑defense Araghchi also spoke on the phone with UN Secretary‑General António Guterres about the latest developments following the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.

The Iranian foreign minister described the various dimensions of the aggressive assault and the US‑Israeli war crimes, emphasizing that civilian targets—schools, hospitals, residential areas, as well as historic buildings and monuments—were hit, constituting a clear violation of international law and fundamental humanitarian principles.

He highlighted the humanitarian toll and extensive damage caused by the attacks, calling for a firm and explicit condemnation by the international community and responsible institutions.

He also emphasized Iran’s inherent right to self‑defense, stating that the Islamic Republic had previously warned all regional and beyond actors that any US military action against Iran would inevitably make all US facilities and bases in the region targets, potentially expanding the war throughout the region.

The foreign minister further stressed the United Nations’ responsibility to maintain international peace and security, emphasizing Iran’s serious expectations from the Secretary‑General and the UN Security Council for stronger, more responsible positions in explicitly condemning the aggression and crimes committed.

He warned that silence or inadequate responses could foster ongoing instability and heightened tensions in the region.

Guterres noted that the United States’ and Israel’s aggressive attack on Iran is clear and undeniable, stressing the need to respect international law and to avoid escalating tensions.

He affirmed that there is no doubt about Iran’s right to self‑defense and emphasized the necessity of working to prevent the conflict from spreading and to reduce its humanitarian and security consequences in the region.

In a separate phone call with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel Ati, Araghchi said Iran’s armed forces are fully ready to robustly exercise their legitimate right of self‑defense and to respond firmly to the aggression and crimes of the United States and the Israeli regime.

He stressed that Iran’s strikes on US bases and assets in the region are carried out within the framework of legitimate defense.

Based on a policy of good neighborliness, the Islamic Republic seeks to maintain friendly, brotherly relations with regional countries and pursue joint regional cooperation to ensure stability and security without foreign interference, Araghchi said.

Badr Abdel Ati expressed deep concern over the rising tensions in the region and emphasized Egypt’s effort to help de‑escalate the situation through diplomacy.
