Israel's Gaza genocide

The Israeli military continues to escalate attacks on civilians across the besieged Gaza Strip despite a fragile ceasefire that was meant to put an end to the regime’s genocidal war. According to Medical sources, Israeli forces have killed at least 10 Palestinians in new attacks across Gaza. Several others were also wounded, with some reported to be in critical condition. On Sunday, Israeli armored vehicles opened heavy fire on eastern areas of Gaza City, including the al-Zeitoun neighborhood. At the same time, large-scale demolition and explosions of buildings were carried out east of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza. To the north, Jabalia refugee camp came under artillery shelling and direct gunfire. The Palestinian death toll since a ceasefire was agreed in Gaza is around 600, while over 1,600 have been injured. The death toll since October 2023, when Israel launched the genocide in Gaza, stands above 72,000.

RSF carnage in Sudan

The UN chief has condemned violence by the anti-government Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, saying their actions constitute carnage. Antonio Guterres was addressing a press conference at the African Union in Ethiopia. His comments come two days after the UN human rights office accused Sudan's RSF paramilitary forces of war crimes and possible crimes against humanity. The rights body said the crimes were committed during the capture of the city of El-Fasher, where six-thousand people were killed in just three days. The office said the RSF carried out summary executions and mass killing of people outside combat for their ethnicity and political affiliation. Since April 2023, the conflict between Sudan's army and the RSF militia has killed tens of thousands, displaced eleven million, and triggered what the UN calls one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.

Ukraine Russia talks

Ukraine is requesting a 20-year security guarantee from the United States before it signs any peace deal with Russia ahead of next week’s talks. Speaking at the annual Munich Security Summit, Volodymyr Zelensky said he hopes next week’s trilateral talks will be serious and substantive. He accused the United States of demanding concessions from Ukraine without requiring the same from Russia. Zelensky also called for a clear date for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, with some EU officials suggesting 2027 as a possible target. Meanwhile, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister has said lasting peace would require security guarantees that protect Moscow’s interests as well. The war in Ukraine has now entered its fourth year, as renewed US mediation seeks a permanent solution to a conflict that has cost thousands of lives on both sides.
