Israeli authorities have arrested several suspects, including army reservists, due to allegations that they utilized confidential military data to place bets and make wagers on the prediction platform Polymarket during the genocidal war on Gaza.

The Israeli regime’s internal spy agency, Shin Bet, said on Thursday that the suspects relied on sensitive information they encountered during military service to guide their wagers.

Shin Bet confirmed that prosecutors indicted one reservist and one settler on charges that include serious security offenses, bribery, and obstruction of justice.

Authorities said that in a joint operation by the Shin Bet, the Malmab security unit, and Israel Police, several suspects were recently detained, including a settler and reservists, on suspicion of managing bets on Polymarket concerning the occurrence of military assaults.

The statement said the bets were purportedly based on classified information to which the reservists were exposed through their military duties.

Following an investigation by Malmab and the Shin Bet, and after what prosecutors described as the formation of an evidentiary basis against the two main suspects, the Attorney’s Office decided to file criminal charges.

At least 591 Palestinians have been killed and more than 1,598 injured in Israeli attacks since a ceasefire deal took effect on October 10, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

‏Israel’s war on Gaza, which began on October 8, 2023, has killed more than 72,000 Palestinians and wounded over 171,000, most of them women and children, and destroyed about 90% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure.
